The rope is produced in Belgium from recycled cotton — offcuts and yarn waste given a second life. It has a soft, warm texture that's gentle to the touch and kind to the environment.
The basket is stitched together by hand using a zigzag stitch, building each layer until it reaches the right shape and structure. This process requires patience and precision — no two baskets are ever exactly identical.
The finishing detail is a biologically tanned leather strap, attached by hand with a small metal rivet. The leather ages beautifully over time.

To remove dust or crumbs, gently clean it using the soft brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner.
For a deeper clean, use a damp cloth with a small amount of liquid detergent.
Be sure not to get the leather label wet, and allow the basket to air dry.

About the products
Where are your products made?
All KOBA Handmade baskets and accessories are carefully crafted in our home atelier in Brasschaat, Belgium. Each piece is handmade from the first stitch to the final detail with great attention to quality and design.
What materials do you use?
Our cords are made in Belgium from recycled cotton yarns. By reusing textile waste, we help reduce waste and preserve natural resources.
What is the finishing around the baskets?
Most baskets are finished with a biologically tanned leather strap, attached by hand with a small metal rivet a detail that adds both durability and elegance.
However, some items such as the tissue boxes, coasters, and Soft Stitch baskets do not have a leather strap. Their clean, seamless finish gives them a softer and more minimal look.
Why can the Soft Stitch baskets be machine washed, but the others cannot?
Soft Stitch baskets can be machine washed because they don’t contain leather parts or metal rivets, and the rope is knitted instead of braided, which makes it softer and more flexible.
Other baskets should not be machine washed, as the leather strap and metal rivet can get damaged, and the braided rope is firmer and may lose its shape when exposed to water.

Care & Maintenance
How do I clean the placemats?
Remove crumbs using a vacuum cleaner. For stains, gently clean with a soft toothbrush, a small amount of liquid soap, and warm water, avoid scrubbing too hard. Then, let the placemat air dry naturally.
Please note: the leather label should not get wet.

What are the shipping costs?
Shipping within Belgium is free for orders over €65. For smaller orders, a delivery fee is added at checkout.
How long does delivery take?
Items in stock are usually shipped within 1-3 business days.
If an item is made to order, please allow 1 weeks for production.
Can I pick up my order?
Yes, you can collect your order by appointment at our atelier in Brasschaat.
Can I return my order?
Yes, returns are accepted within 7 days after delivery. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.
Return costs are at the customer’s expense.
